Counseling involves creating a space in which someone can find their way back into their life. Given that survivors often experience themselves as powerless or “stuck” (this can be as much about not having enough money to send kids to childcare or not having the educational training to change jobs, as about relationships with families or friends), counselling involves a primary commitment to validating a survivor's right to her or his feelings and experiences, and discussing the choices and decisions available.
You can call our 24 hour crisis lines and speak to a counselor in Xhosa, Afrikaans or English.
