1. When you report the crime to the police, they will open a docket and investigate the crime.
2. The docket will be sent to court and the prosecutor will decide if more investigation is needed. The prosecutor may decide whether to prosecute or not - maybe the case is not strong enough or there is not enough evidence.
3. If there is enough evidence and the prosecutor decides to prosecute, the case goes to trial.
4. Before the trial the prosecutor will have consultations with the survivors to discuss the case.
5. You will have to testify against the rapist in court where he will be present as the accused. His defense attorney will also ask you questions about what happened.
6. If he is found guilty during his trial he will be sentenced to at least ten years in jail if not more.
